ce poste, le quel a fait serment par Dieu
notre seigneur & un signe de Croix en forme
de droit, de déclarer ce qu’il sait relativement
au complot des négres esclaves de se Poste
contre leurs maîtres et a déclaré que ____
Étant sorti de sa maison vers les dix à
onze heures du soir, et étant près du cheman
il entendit un négre dire à son camarade nous
a sommes Libres, les habitants ne veulent pas
nous donner notre Liberté en les finissant nous le
deviendrons, nous avons assés de nos haches & de
nos batons pour les tuer, et ajouta qu’ils avoient
déjà manqué, mais qu’ils ne croyoient pas que ce
coup ici manqueroit, et qu’ils avoient à leurs tête
des Jens Gaillards, ;; et c’est la seule chose
que J’ai pu entendre, et n’ai pu connoître les
négres.
a dit n’avoir rien de plus a déclarer, qu’il est
agé de cinquente deux ans, après avoir reitèré
son serment, que ce qu’il a dit est la pure vérité
en vertu du serment qu’il a prêté et afin qu’il
conste il a signé avec les sieurs francois allain
et simon Croiset, témoins d’assistance & nous
commandant sus dit donne foi

On the same day and year as stated above, in the presence of the same witnesses, Mr. Louis Riché, inhabitant of this post, appeared in person and took an oath to God our Lord, to tell what he knows about the plot by negro slaves of this post against their masters. He said that having left his house around 10 or 11 o’clock in the evening, and being near the road, he heard a negro say to his companion, ““We are free; the residents don’t want to give us our freedom; by killing them, we will become free. We have enough hatchets and sticks to kill them,”“ and added that they had already failed, but they didn’t think this blow would fail, and they had as leaders some strong people. That’s the only thing I could hear, and I didn’t know the negros.
He said he had nothing more to tell, and that he is 52 years old. After having repeated his oath that what he said was the absolute truth. In accordance with the oath he took and in order to certify it, he signed his name in the presence of Messrs.
