Additional notes

The text of his initial declaration implies that Guillaume had reached the age of majority, which was 25 in Spanish Louisiana--cf. Kimberly S. Hanger, 'Bounded Lives, Bounded Places: Free Black Society in Colonial New Orleans' (Chapel Hill: Duke UP, 1997), p. 92. With regard to age, the number should always be considered approximate for the enslaved, even when a fixed integer is given.
