Au Poste de la Pointe Coupée le vingt troisieme jour du mois de may
de lannée mil sept cent quatre vingt quinze, en vertu d’une lettre d’office
en date du quatre du courant, de Mr Le Baron de Carondelet Gouver-
neur Genéral de la Province, avons, par devans nous Guillaume
Duparc Commandant du dit Poste, fait assenblé tous les habitans
et après leur avoir fait la lecture de la dite lettre d’office, qui
est qu’on leur demandent S’ils consentent qu’un negre arrété pour
être connu pour dangereux, mutin et suspects soient emporté
de la colomnie ils ont répondu que non, au contraire ils deman-
dent que tout negre en faute soit puni dan son lieu Selon son
crime, pour servir dexemple en foi de quoi nous avons signé
avec tous les habitans Sus dits accompagnés des deux Sindics.

May 1795 Deliberation of the residents of Pointe Coupée post about charging an arrested Black
At Pointe Coupée post on May 23, 1795, in accordance with an official letter dated the fourth of this month from M. Baron de Carondelet, Governor General of the Province, we, Guillaume Duparc, Commandant of said post, have assembled before us all of the inhabitants, after having read said official letter to them, which is to ask them if they consent to having negros who are arrested for being known to be dangerous, rebellious, and suspect removed from the colony, they replied that no, instead they ask that any negro at fault be punished on the premises according to his crime, to serve as an example. In witness of which, we have signed with all of the aforementioned inhabitants, accompanied by two representatives: Mayeau, representative, Major, representative, LeBlanc, Beauvais, Vignes, Jarreau, Riché, J. Decuir, Allain, Patin, Samson, mark of Baptiste, Poursian, Gueho, signing for Guillaume André, Vigne, Binjamain Farar, signing for Joseph André, Vigne, Huber, Grémillion, Charles Lachapelle, signing for Jean François Porché, representative Vigne.
